A MESSAGE FROM HELEN ADKINS, LEADER OF THE WARWICKSHIRE LABOUR GROUP

“It has been inspiring to see people across Warwickshire come together in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Elderly and vulnerable people are being supported by volunteers delivering food parcels, our key workers are keeping our public sector going and everyone has made social and personal sacrifices for the benefit of all. As a consequence of COVID-19 there are now many difficulties facing us as we continue to fight the virus, vaccinate our population and recover from the financial, health and social implications of the pandemic.

But we must not feel defeated. The community spirit that has developed should not end when the pandemic ends. This period in time represents a historic opportunity to transform Warwickshire for the better. Instead of going back to business as usual, a Labour Council at Shire Hall will rebuild our economy and our communities, protect and create jobs, support the vulnerable and elderly, re-build youth services, reverse climate change, and increase funding to education and health. In order to do this we will invest funds in businesses, communities, and to support our vulnerable families. We will ensure our local schools have adequate resources so that parents have confidence in their local education system. A Labour controlled Warwickshire will also make a historic investment of £4 million in health and social are in order to tackle health inequalities across the county. We believe your health and social care should be based on your need, not your postcode. We will also lead the fight against climate change, investing in electric buses, eco-friendly schools and a multi-million pound climate change fund which will fund cleaner travel and clean up our air. We only have one planet and the time to take action is now.

We will invest £5 million in initiatives ensuring children have the opportunity to fulfil their potential and recover from the impact of COVID–19 on their education. We will also look to invest in the first 1,000 days of children’s lives. Importantly we will also tackle racial inequality, by instigating a Task Group to look into inequalities amongst our Black, Asian and Minority communities across the county. We will immediately implement the recommendations of this task group and ensure all residents across our county are treated fairly and equally.

This is our plan for Warwickshire. But we can only make it happen with your support. Please vote for our Labour candidates in the elections in May 2021 and we will deliver a fairer future for the people of our county.”
